Modalities and Treatments
Swedish: Long, soothing strokes to relieve stress and encourage deep relaxation.
Deep Tissue/Neuromuscular/Trigger Point: Breaks down specific areas of toxin buildup (often felt as ‘knots’). The pressure used is much firmer and more specific than in Swedish. The therapist works closely with the client to find the depth needed to achieve the release of muscular tension.
Bamboo Therapy: This therapy is a deep Tissue massage using heated bamboo sticks to release muscle tightness.
Shiatsu: A Japanese form of acupressure massage performed fully clothed. This technique uses finger pressure instead of needles. Robert Ristow is our Shiatsu specialist.
Acupuncture: Lynn Breeding, M.Ac., L.Ac., AcuCare, is now offering acupuncture, oriental medicine and Chinese herbs at the Wellness Center. You can schedule an appointment with Lynn by calling (410) 552-9858.
Myofascial Release: A gentle modality aimed at stretching out the body’s connective tissue (the most abundant tissue in the body that wraps around muscles and tendons) thereby relieving muscular tension. The process of stretching is slow, allowing for realignment of the body’s basic structure and deep relaxation of long-held tension.
Sports Massage: Not just for athletes. Sports massage is designed to help sore and tense muscles relax. It flushes toxins such as lactic acid from the muscles so that you will be fresh and ready for your next workout
Pregnancy Massage: For moms who are past the first trimester, this gentle form of massage combines several techniques and uses special supports to help promote comfort during the session. Massage during pregnancy helps relieve muscle soreness, allowing mom to experience relaxation.
Doula: Jo Anne Crawford, Certified Doula, offers childbirth support for moms-to-be. Contact Jo Anne at (443)536-2025 or www.doulajo.com
Cancer / Mastectomy Massage: Gentle, relaxing bodywork techniques help reconnect the body. Special cushions provide comfort for mastectomy patients. Massage is good for either the caregiver or the loved one.
Lymphatic Drainage Therapy / Lymphatic Massage: This very gentle therapy is designed to flush the body’s lymphatic system, which is responsible for transporting the body’s immune system and helping fight infection. Flushing the system can help keep it strong and efficient.
European Hot Stone Massage: One of our most relaxing treatments, heated stones are placed on specific points of the body to promote healing, while stones are used simultaneously to perform a relaxing deep massage. The heat and weight of the stones will melt your tension away.
Ginger Tea Treatment: Ginger Tea is used for detoxification and removal of built up toxins in the body. Hot towels soaked in the tea are then applied to specific areas of the body, followed by a Deep Tissue Massage.
Ear Candling: Because of insurance concerns, we are no longer offering ear candling. However, if you are interested in ear candling, Therapeutic Kneads can refer you to individual practitioners. This therapy uses a lighted cone of beeswax and linen inserted comfortably in the ear creating a vacuum, stimulating the ear canal and sinuses to drain resulting in less wax and debris. The treatment takes about 45 minutes and includes a very relaxing facial massage.
Foot Scrubs: This pampering treatment can be added to our half-hour, one-hour or one & a half-hour massage. Hot towels are wrapped around your feet to relax the muscles and soften your skin, Jojoba oil sugar scrub is used to exfoliate the skin, followed by a deep foot massage with our refreshing foot lotion.
Massage Duo: Relax with a friend or someone special with two simultaneous massages. These massages can be enjoyed in the same room or separately, but must be scheduled for the same time. Available in one hour or hour and a half increments.
Energy Modalities: These biofield techniques move and clear your body’s energy, helping you to feel rejuvenated and relaxed. Our energy modalities include Reiki, Chakra Balancing, Polarity Therapy and Healing Touch.
Reflexology: Specific pressure is applied to zones and reflex areas that correspond to all body parts, resulting in stress reduction and causing physiological changes in the body.
Raindrop Therapy: An aromatic escape from your troubles. Therapeutic essential oils are applied to the body and hot towels promote absorption of the oils. This technique detoxifies and relaxes the body.
Cranial Sacral Therapy: Subtle massage movements of the sacral, spinal and cranial bones in an attempt to bring the central nervous system into harmony. By gently working with the spine, skull, cranial sutures, diaphragm and fascia, nerve constrictions are released and cerebrospinal fluid flows freely. This therapy is effective for migraines, TMJ and fibromyalgia.
Special Occasions: Relax on your special occasion...or help someone relax on their special occasion: wedding, anniversary, graduation, birthday, Mother's Day, Father's Day, any holiday, a thank you gift or just because.
Yoga: Hatha Yoga classes are offered on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6pm. Hatha Yoga is a slow-paced stretching class with simple breathing exercises, basic poses and relaxation techniques. The first class is free.
Gift Certificates: Give that special someone a Therapeutic Kneads gift certificate and they can schedule their choice of massage at their own convenience. Call for more information or to buy one today.
